I am a relativist by training. Very broadly, I am drawn to problems in gravity, geometry, nonlinear dynamics, and astrophysics. My students and I currently work on black holes, gravitational waves, alternative theories of gravity, self-force and radiation reaction, nonlinear dynamics in relativistic astrophysics, geometric mechanics and geometric thermodynamics. When I'm lucky to have spare time, I indulge in some philosophy and history of science.
I lead the Gravity Group of the National Institute of Physics.
